We all know that digital marketing is important for the success of your business, and we all hear things like SEO, PPC, advertising, branding, so on so forth… BUT what if I told you that was all for nothing because you weren’t converting like you should be.

Imagine this really common and basic concept that lots of small business owners forget from time to time due to the fact that they are constantly being feed information about all these paid services.

A Likely Scenario We See Day In Day O

Your manage to get 1000 visitors to your website and feel like you are achieving an amazing goal. You have worked hard for this and spent money generating those visits through all the paid search, organic search, social media, emailing, etc.

Your conversion rate once they get to the site however is much lower at only 3% meaning only 30 leads are generated.

Imagine if you were able to increase your conversion rate by just 2% without have to pay for any more traffic. You wouldn’t be paying for more paid ads, no more hard work using social media, no more SEO guys telling you to spend more to get more leads.

With just a 2% increase in your conversion rate you would be generating an additional 20 leads and all you had to do was use best practice to improve you website and make it resonate with your customers!

I have lots of customers who are paying around the $0.32 per visitor in their respective industries which means that to generate 30 leads it could cost them $320 or $10.67 if they were converting at 3%.

Imagine if they could increase that by 2% without any additional spend! This would decrease their conversion cost per lead by $4.27 which is a saving over 40% on lead cost.

1. Use real pictures of your team and customers

Do you like seeing stock images everywhere? Neither do your customers use real pictures of real results. For our company it might be data showing that the evidence is real but for yours it could be anything, such as a granny flat that you built.

2. Have simple forms with as fewer things to enter as possible

Your busy and so are your customers! The more they have to do, the less likely they are to complete it. Make it as easy as possible for them to reach out and get in touch with you if you want to increase your conversion rates.

3. Focus on what you can do for your customers

It’s great that you have been in business for 20 years and won heaps of awards but how does that help your customer. Stop bragging and get to work on how you can improve your customers lives by solving an issue for them!

4. Don’t over complicate your landing pages with too much information!

This comes back to the forms if you place too much information on the page your customers will zone out and stop reading. Focus on the key points that make you different to your competitors and solve their problems.

5. Have a clear call to action

Emphasis your call to action by changing the colour. Don’t expect your customers to know what they should do intuitively. The more you can spell it out for them in a clear and simple way, the more likely they will be to do it. Changing your icons to text when a call to action is involved almost always has a positive impact on conversion rates!

6. Break up your content with blocks with separating background colour

Again simplifying each area of the landing page with a content block can increase the conversion rate provided that there is a clear theme to each block. Whether this be stages or different aspects it shows a clear benefit for the customer.
