Local SEO

Local SEO for businesses that win work from the map pack and suburb searches. We set your Google Business Profile up properly, build service-area pages that each earn their place, and put in a review routine your team will actually keep up.

For businesses that serve customers within a set drive of a base or branch.

What we can help with

What local SEO work covers

Most local campaigns need some of each. The mix depends on whether you have a shopfront, a service area or several branches.

  • Google Business Profile categories, services and photos
  • Service-area pages built from real job detail
  • Citation and NAP clean-up across Apple, Bing and directories
  • Review requests built into job completion
  • Map pack tracking across your whole service area
  • Call and direction tracking from the profile

Local SEO in practice

The map pack is won on the profile first

For searches like ‘electrician near me’ or ‘blocked drain Parramatta’, Google shows three businesses on a map above the regular results. Those spots depend on relevance, distance and prominence, so the profile has to be precise. We check your primary category against the businesses already in those three spots, add secondary categories only where you genuinely do that work, list services in the words customers type, and set the service area to suburbs you will actually drive to. A service-area business with no shopfront should hide its address. Google’s profile guidelines don’t allow virtual offices that aren’t staffed, and listings built on them get suspended, so we don’t use them.

Photos matter more than most owners expect. Recent shots of your vans, your team in uniform and finished jobs give a profile weight that stock images can’t. The pages the profile links to need the same care, which is where SEO copywriting comes in.

Planning and implementation

Suburb pages that are worth indexing

Google’s spam policies name doorway pages: near-identical pages that swap the suburb name and add nothing else. They tend to get filtered out, and they make the whole site look thin. A service-area page earns its place when it says something specific about that area, such as the housing stock you work on, typical access or parking issues, nearby jobs with photos, and how quickly you can get there. We usually start with the suburbs that bring in the best jobs and build outwards, rather than publishing hundreds at once. Citations get the same treatment: your business name, address and phone number should match across Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, Yellow Pages, True Local and the directories that matter in your trade.

Reviews are the other half. The best moment to ask is when the job is finished and the customer is happy, by SMS with a direct review link. Ask every customer, not only the ones you expect to be positive, because picking who gets asked runs against Google’s review policies. Local rankings also lean on the authority of the website, so link building from local clubs and suppliers and broader SEO services often run alongside.

How we work

How a local SEO engagement runs

01

Audit the profile and the map

We check categories, service area, NAP consistency and reviews against the three businesses beating you, and run a grid check of rankings across your suburbs.

02

Fix the foundations

Profile edits, citation clean-up, review request templates and the first service-area pages, in that order, with your sign-off on anything public.

03

Track calls by suburb

Each month we compare map visibility and profile actions with calls and booked jobs, then choose the next suburbs and services to build.

Measurement and review

What we report on for local search

A ranking checked from an office in the CBD tells you little about how you appear in Penrith or Sutherland. We track map pack position across a grid of points in your service area, then look at profile calls, website clicks and direction requests from Google Business Profile.

The number that matters most is booked jobs from local search. Tag calls and web enquiries by source so you can see whether the profile is sending work in the suburbs and services you want more of.

Good questions

Local SEO questions we get asked

A few useful answers before we talk.

Do we need a page for every suburb we service?

No. A suburb page only helps if it has something real to say: jobs done there, local conditions, how fast you can attend. For most service businesses, a page for each main hub suburb or council area plus strong service pages does more than hundreds of thin variants. We look at where your best jobs come from and which suburbs show search demand, then build in priority order. The profile's service area can still list every suburb you cover without a page behind each one.

We work from home. Can we still rank in the map pack?

Yes. Set the profile up as a service-area business and hide the home address. Google still uses your verified location to judge distance, so you will generally rank more strongly near your base than at the edge of your area. Reaching further out comes from relevance, reviews and a site with useful pages about those suburbs. Don't rent a virtual office or borrow a friend's shop address to fake a second location; those listings get suspended, sometimes along with the original.

How many reviews do we need?

There's no number that guarantees a spot. What counts is a steady flow of recent, genuine reviews that mention the job and suburb in the customer's own words, plus replies from you. A burst of twenty in one week followed by silence looks odd. Build the ask into job completion so the tech or the office sends a review link the same day. Google prohibits offering incentives for reviews, and fake or misleading reviews can breach Australian Consumer Law.

How long before local SEO shows results?

Fixing a wrong primary category or missing services can change map visibility comparatively quickly, because it changes how Google reads relevance. Reviews, citations and service-area pages build more slowly, over months. Competitive inner-city terms take longer than outer suburbs with fewer operators. We would rather show you month-by-month movement in calls and direction requests than promise a ranking date nobody controls.

What does the free audit look at for local SEO?

We review your Google Business Profile, how you appear in the map pack across your service area, citation consistency and the pages Google sends local searchers to. You get a prioritised checklist you can hand to your team or work through yourself, and implementation is a separate conversation if you want us to do it. Request the free marketing audit.

A useful starting point

What the free audit shows about your map presence

For local SEO we start with your Google Business Profile and the map results across your suburbs, then the pages behind them.

  • Where you rank in the map pack across your service area, not just from one postcode.
  • Profile, citation and review issues ranked by how much they affect calls.
  • Which fixes you can make yourself this week and which need a scoped project.
