Services / Bing Ads
Microsoft Advertising puts your ads on Bing and its partner search sites, including Yahoo and DuckDuckGo, and in front of people who search from the Edge browser or the Windows taskbar. We set it up as a measured extension of your Google Ads account: import what already works, fix what doesn’t translate, and report the leads it adds on their own line.
A second search channel, built from what already converts on Google.
Bring across the campaigns that already earn calls.
Count the enquiries Bing actually sends.
Trim spend on queries Google never showed you.
What we can help with
If you already run Google Ads, most of the groundwork exists. The real work is checking what the import carries across and what it breaks.
Bing Ads in practice
Bing’s audience is smaller than Google’s and leans towards desktop users, older searchers and people at work on company PCs, where Edge and Windows send queries to Bing by default. That suits services bought by retirees and their families, trades selling to established homeowners, and B2B suppliers whose buyers search from the office. It is a weaker match for impulse, mobile-first jobs like a late-night lockout, where Bing volume in a single suburb can be thin.
Bing sits beside Google rather than replacing it, so the plan is built with our pay-per-click capture work and uses the same lead definitions. Home care is one sector where Bing’s older audience can line up well with the person making the decision; see our notes on home care marketing.
Planning and implementation
Microsoft Advertising’s Google Import tool copies campaigns, keywords, ads and extensions in a few minutes, and it can be scheduled to repeat. The catch is that it copies everything, including broad keywords that waste money, location settings that may not map cleanly, and bid strategies with no conversion history on the new platform. We import once, review every campaign, install the UET tag, then turn off scheduled syncing so changes made for Google don’t overwrite fixes made for Bing. For B2B advertisers, LinkedIn profile targeting can raise bids when the searcher works in a chosen industry, company or job function, something Google search has no direct equivalent for.
The same keyword research feeds our Google Ads management, and both platforms usually send traffic to shared landing pages, so improvements from conversion rate optimisation lift results on each.
How we work
01
If Google Ads is poorly structured or its tracking is broken, importing it spreads the problem. We fix the source account, or flag what needs fixing, before anything moves.
02
Campaigns come across, the UET tag goes on the site, and bid adjustments for device, location and time of day are set from how your enquiries actually arrive.
03
Bing volume is lower, so decisions need a longer window. Search terms get reviewed weekly, and cost per lead is judged once enough enquiries have come through to mean something.
Measurement and review
Microsoft Advertising is reported as its own channel: calls, forms and booked jobs by service, next to what they cost. Tagging the lead source in your CRM shows whether Bing enquiries turn into work at the same rate as Google ones.
Clicks can cost less on Bing because fewer advertisers compete in many local markets, but cheap clicks only matter if the leads close. If cost per booked job holds up after a few months, budget can shift towards it. If it doesn’t, we pause the campaigns and explain why.
Good questions
What owners usually ask before adding Bing to the mix.
It can be, if Google is already converting and you want more of the same leads. Bing reaches a smaller pool of searchers, many of them on desktop at home or at work, and there are often fewer competing advertisers. It will not rescue a Google account that isn't working, because the same landing pages and offer are doing the selling. Start with your best-performing services rather than the whole account.
No. The Microsoft search network also covers partner sites such as Yahoo and DuckDuckGo, and searches that start in the Windows taskbar or the Edge address bar land on Bing results. Partner distribution can be limited at campaign level if a particular source sends poor traffic. For lead generation we start with search placements only and add other inventory once the search campaigns have proven themselves.
Yes, and this is where it differs most. Microsoft owns LinkedIn, and search campaigns can use LinkedIn profile data to adjust bids by company, industry or job function. A commercial cleaning company could bid harder when the searcher works in facilities management. It works as a layer on keyword searches, so the person still has to search for your service first, and availability of the feature should be confirmed in your account.
Media spend and management are separate costs. Spend depends on how many people search for your services on Bing in your area, which is usually fewer than on Google, so budgets tend to be smaller. Our marketing budget guide explains how we size a test. A modest budget on proven services gives a cleaner answer than spreading money across every campaign the import creates.
If you run Google Ads, we look at whether the account is clean enough to import, which services have enough Bing search demand to justify a test, and whether your tracking would count Bing calls and forms correctly. You get a short checklist of what to fix and what to launch first. Here is what the free marketing audit covers.
