Services / YouTube Ads
YouTube ads run inside Google Ads, so they can reach people by location, by what they’ve recently searched on Google and by whether they’ve visited your site. We plan the video, the format and the audience together, so a 15-second clip filmed on a job site has one clear task.
Video that introduces you before the customer needs to search.

What we can help with
Most YouTube campaigns fail on the video rather than the settings, so the opening seconds get as much attention as the targeting.
YouTube Ads in practice
Skippable in-stream ads play before or during other videos and can be skipped after five seconds, so the hook and your business name need to land early. Bumper ads run for six seconds, can’t be skipped and suit repeating one simple message. In-feed ads appear in YouTube search results and next to related videos, which fits a how-to or explainer. Shorts ads run vertically between Shorts. Demand Gen campaigns combine YouTube, Shorts, Discover and Gmail placements and are Google’s main video option when the goal is clicks and leads rather than views.
Because YouTube lives in the same account as your Google Ads search campaigns, people who watched can be reached again on search, and recent searchers can be shown a video.
Planning and implementation
For a service business, YouTube works best as local awareness: a radius around your service area, a short clip of a real job, your face and a reason to remember the name. A pool builder showing a dig-to-handover timelapse, or a solar installer walking through a roof install, gives viewers something a text ad can’t. The aim is that when they need you, they search your business name or recognise it in the results. Phone footage is fine if the sound is clear and the first frame shows the work. We write the script and shot list, then edit vertical and horizontal versions from the same shoot.
Scripts come from our creative strategy process, and video spend is weighed against other channels in performance marketing. Pool construction is a good example of a trade with footage worth showing; see pool builder marketing.
How we work
01
Area awareness, a retargeting reminder and a lead campaign each need different lengths, formats and calls to action. We agree on one before anyone films.
02
You get a script, a shot list and a plan for cut-downs. Film it on site yourself or we arrange production, and we edit a version for each placement.
03
Campaigns launch with location targeting and audiences set, and we compare what viewers did afterwards with people who weren’t shown the ad.
Measurement and review
View rate tells you whether the opening holds attention. The more useful measures sit further down: searches for your business name in the targeted area, site visits from people who watched, and enquiries from audiences YouTube reached first. Google Ads can also report engaged-view conversions from people who watched part of an ad and converted later.
Raw views don’t count as success. A cheap view from someone outside your service area is worth nothing, so location reports and placement exclusions get checked as closely as the creative.
Good questions
Worth reading before you book a camera crew.
Not always. For local awareness and Shorts, honest phone footage of real jobs often feels more believable than a polished brand film. What matters is clear audio, decent light, the work visible in the first two seconds and a version cut for each placement. A professional shoot makes sense for connected TV, longer explainers, or when one video needs to carry the brand for a year or more.
Yes. Location targeting works by suburb, postcode or radius, and you can exclude areas you don't cover. Audiences can be layered on top: people who searched for your services on Google recently, people who visited your site, or customer lists you upload. A tight area reduces wasted views but also limits reach, so we size it to match the budget.
Sometimes, through Demand Gen and retargeting, but most service businesses get more from YouTube as a support channel. A homeowner who saw your video is more likely to click your search ad or call from your Google Business Profile later on. If you need enquiries this month on a small budget, search campaigns should come first and video can follow.
Media spend can start small because you set the daily budget, but the video itself is often the larger first cost. Our budget guide for service businesses covers production options and media budgets, and we suggest a test period long enough to see whether branded search and enquiries actually move.
We look at your current Google Ads setup, any existing video, your service area and whether tracking would show a lift in branded searches and enquiries. You get a short list naming the format to start with and the footage you need. See the full free audit offer.
