Creative Strategy

Creative strategy for service businesses running Meta, YouTube or TikTok ads: deciding which angles to test, planning real-job content your crew can capture on a phone, and reading the results so each round of ads is better than the last.

Ads built from your jobs, your crew and your customers.

CREATIVE STRATEGY
Angles from real customers

Mine reviews, calls and quotes for hooks.

Briefs and shot lists

Plan what to film on the next jobs.

Test, read, iterate

Keep winners, retire the rest, brief again.

What we can help with

Creative work we plan

Most of it is planning and briefing. Production can be your team’s phones, a designer, or a videographer for bigger shoots.

  • Angle research from reviews and sales calls
  • Hook and offer testing matrix
  • Shot lists for on-site phone footage
  • UGC and customer video briefs
  • Platform-specific edits and formats
  • Monthly creative performance reviews

Creative Strategy in practice

Angles that work for trades and local services

An angle is the reason someone should care. A handful recur for service businesses: speed (we answer and turn up the same day), proof (the before and after), trust (licensed, insured, the owner on camera), price certainty (fixed quotes, no surprise call-out fee) and the problem itself (the damp patch, the tripping safety switch, the lawn full of weeds). We pull the version that fits your business from reviews, recorded calls and the objections your quoting staff hear every week. Each one is then written as a hook for the first two seconds of a video or the headline of a static ad.

These angles feed straight into Facebook ads, where most service businesses spend the bulk of their social budget.

Planning and implementation

Testing and real-job content

A useful test changes one thing: the angle, the hook or the format, not all three at once. Meta’s delivery system pushes spend towards the ads it predicts will perform, so a fair comparison needs separate ad sets or the platform’s A/B test tool, and enough budget for each variant to get a real read. For trades, footage from real jobs often comes across as more believable than polished brand video, because it looks like what the customer will actually get. A sparky explaining a switchboard upgrade on site, a time-lapse of a driveway pour or a customer filmed at handover all count. Get written consent before featuring a customer, and keep every claim in the ad something you can back up under Australian Consumer Law.

The same footage serves Instagram ads as Reels and Stories, and the off-cuts become organic social posts. Longer explainer pieces may suit video marketing on YouTube or your website.

How we work

How a creative cycle runs

01

Find the angles

We read your reviews, listen to call recordings where you have them, and look at what competitors are running in Meta’s Ad Library.

02

Brief and capture

Each concept gets a brief covering audience, hook, proof, format and call to action. Shot lists go to the crew for the next suitable jobs.

03

Read results and brief again

After each test window we compare cost per lead and lead quality by concept, retire the losers and write the next round of briefs.

Measurement and review

Judging creative on enquiries

Early video metrics like hook rate and hold rate tell you whether the opening works. They don’t tell you whether it brings in jobs. Each concept is judged on cost per enquiry and on how many of those enquiries became quotes and booked work.

Keep a simple log of every concept tested, what it said and how it performed. After a few rounds that log becomes the most useful creative asset the business owns.

Good questions

Creative strategy questions

A few useful answers before we talk.

Do we need professional video?

Usually not to start. For trades, footage from a recent phone in good light with clear audio is often enough, and it looks like the service customers will receive. Professional shoots make sense for brand pieces, recruitment videos or high-ticket work like custom homes and pools. We brief your crew on what to film, how to frame it and what to say, so a ten-minute stop on site produces several usable clips.

What counts as UGC for a service business?

User-generated content here means footage that looks made by a real person rather than an agency: a customer showing off their new bathroom, a tech talking to camera from the van, a short clip from the job. It can come from customers with their permission or from your own staff. Paid creators presented as customers are a different matter. Any ad that implies a real customer must use one, and testimonials have to be genuine to stay within Australian Consumer Law.

How many ads should we be testing at once?

Fewer than most people expect. Two or three genuinely different angles at a time, each with enough budget to collect enquiries, teaches you more than ten small variations sharing a modest budget. Once an angle wins, test new hooks and formats inside it. The budget a test needs depends on your cost per lead, which our marketing budget guide helps you estimate.

Does creative strategy include production?

Strategy covers the angles, briefs and testing plan. Editing, design and filming can be added to the scope, or your team can shoot and the footage is cut for each platform. Who supplies what, how many concepts are made each round and how approvals work are agreed upfront, so nobody is waiting on footage when a test is due to start.

Will the free audit look at our ads?

If you're running Meta ads, yes. The free marketing audit includes a look at your current creative, the landing pages behind it and the enquiry path, and gives you a prioritised checklist. You'll see which angles are missing and where the ad and the page tell different stories. Ongoing creative work is quoted separately.

A useful starting point

What the free audit says about your creative

For creative strategy, the free audit reviews the ads you’re running now and the pages they send people to.

  • Whether your current ads lead with a reason to call or just a logo.
  • Gaps between what the ad promises and what the landing page shows.
  • Angles worth testing next, listed in a checklist you can brief from.
