Services / Snapchat Ads
Snapchat reaches teenagers and people in their twenties, almost entirely on phones, through full-screen vertical ads between Stories and in Spotlight, plus sponsored AR lenses. For most trades and professional services that audience isn’t the buyer, and we’ll tell you so. It can work for barbers, gyms, driving schools, tattoo studios and events, and for recruiting apprentices.
Young-audience reach, recommended only where it genuinely fits.
Confirm your buyers actually use Snapchat.
Shoot for sound-on, full-screen viewing.
Measure bookings, sign-ups or applications.
What we can help with
We recommend Snapchat less often than any other paid social channel. When the audience does line up, this is what the work includes.
Snapchat Ads in practice
Snapchat’s audience is concentrated among people under 35, especially teens and young adults who use it to message friends. Ads appear as full-screen vertical video between friends’ Stories and in Spotlight, or as sponsored AR lenses people play with on camera. That makes it useful for businesses whose customers are that age: barbers and fade specialists, gyms with student offers, driving schools reaching learners, tattoo studios, nightlife and event promoters. It is a poor fit for selling home renovations, accounting or aged care, where the decision-maker is older and rarely opens the app.
For short vertical video that reaches a broader age range, TikTok Ads is usually the better first test. Driving schools are one case where Snapchat lines up well; see driving school marketing.
Planning and implementation
Sponsored lenses let people try on a look, add a branded effect to their face or surroundings, and send it to friends. For a barber or tattoo studio, a lens that previews a style may travel further than a standard ad. Trades businesses do have one strong use: recruiting apprentices. School leavers and young jobseekers are on Snapchat, so a short clip of a day on site, a clear message about pay and training, and a quick application form can reach people who never look at job boards. Creative must be shot vertically, sound on, with the point made in the first two seconds.
Hooks and lens ideas come from creative strategy, and any Snapchat spend is weighed against other options in our performance marketing planning.
How we work
01
We look at the age of your actual customers and enquiries. If most are over 35, we’ll recommend a different channel and stop there.
02
Ads are shot vertically on a phone, often by staff or regulars, and edited to feel like a Snap rather than a cut-down TV commercial.
03
A short campaign with the Snap Pixel installed shows whether bookings, sign-ups or applications come through at a cost that makes sense.
Measurement and review
Swipe-ups and video views are cheap on Snapchat and easy to overrate. We set one conversion that matters, such as a booking, a membership sign-up or an apprentice application, and judge the test on that alone.
Younger customers often book through DMs or simply walk in, so we add a “where did you hear about us” question to booking forms and the front counter to catch what the pixel can’t.
Good questions
Including when not to bother.
For customers, almost never. Homeowners hiring a plumber, electrician or builder are mostly older than Snapchat's core audience, and your money will do more on Google Search, local SEO and Facebook. The exception is hiring. If you need apprentices or young labourers, a Snapchat campaign with an easy application form can reach school leavers who don't browse job sites.
Yes, by location, radius and age, with interest and behaviour categories on top. Local audiences can still be workable because younger people use the app heavily, but you should exclude ages you can't serve. Advertising to under-18s carries extra platform restrictions, and some categories can't be shown to minors at all, so the age settings need checking for your industry.
Sponsored lenses are camera effects people apply to their face or surroundings and share with friends. Brands use them for virtual try-ons, event promotion and playful branded effects. They need design work and suit businesses with a strong visual identity and a young audience. For most small businesses, standard Snap Ads are the sensible place to start.
Media can start modestly because you set a daily budget, and phone-shot vertical creative keeps production costs down. The bigger question is whether your customers are there at all. Our guide to service business marketing budgets explains how we compare channels before committing spend to any of them.
Mostly whether it's worth considering. We look at your customer age profile, your current channels and what's working, and whether a younger-audience channel like Snapchat or TikTok fits. You get a short checklist either way. Find out more about the free audit.
